5 Tips On Finding A Manager

If you decide to go down the manager route, the next step is actually FINDING this person. Don’t just hire the first person who says they’re a manager, though. You need to make sure that person is right for you. Here are some things you need to think about when searching for a manager:

1. Make Sure They Are Enthusiastic About Your Music.
When hiring a manager, you want them to really believe in what you do. There’s nothing worse that having a manager that’s just doing it for the money, it’ll only make you feel like they don’t really want to be there. And what will happen if they start working with another act they DO really like? All their focus and attention will go to them, that’s what. Don’t hire anyone that’s not also a fan of your music, it won’t work out well.

2. You Can Find Managers On Online Forums.
One way you can go about finding a manager is by advertising yourself on music forums or in relevant magazines. Forums are often filled with music fanatics and people who already work within the industry. If you have the talent and can give people a reason to want to work with you, you are sure to get some interest.

3. What About Your Friends?
If you don’t want to work with someone completely new, why not get one of your friends to become your manager? You may have a friend that’s just as excited by your music and the music industry as you, but has no musical talent of their own. This may be how they break into the music industry.

While they may need to learn the business side of things themselves (And maybe even take a few courses on their own to speed up this process), it can work out well in the long run.

4. Make Sure You Keep Things Official.
If you decide to hire a friend as your manager, you need to remember that this is now a business arrangement. There should be no more verbal contracts; you need to get every business-related decision down in writing. Keep paperwork, have deadlines, and set goals. If they aren’t pulling their weight and are taking advantage of your friendship, find a new manager.

5. Measure The Success Of Your Manager.
The role of the manager at this stage should be to help move your music forward faster than you could by yourself. Because of this, it’s a good idea to keep track of how much impact they are making on your career. Are they getting you more shows? Are they helping out with promotion? Are they chipping in?
You really do want a go-getter as a manager. You shouldn’t always have to tell them what you want doing. They should go out there and help push you forward without being told to do so. After all, the more money you make, the more money they make.

If you don’t see any real results or benefits after a few months of hiring them, you may want to consider getting a new manager. Also, set the the terms for a “trial period,” after which either party can back out with no hard feelings.

America's Cutest Couple 2011

It is amazing to me that America's Cutest Couple could come out of Northern California of all places, but I guess People Magazine and other media agencies were tired of the same old Hollywood B.S. and were looking for America's "Real" Cutest Couple for 2011. Robbi & Shirl Spencer are both Entertainers on the Progressive Edge Records label.  Robbi, Shirl and several new artists, including Kriss Burgz, Ryan Sweeton, America's Cutest Couple, The Cuddlemuffin Showdown, SE Spirit Chasers, Brant Callahan and more!  The recent news was not surprising considering that long-time record producer Robbi Spencer has had his eye on the prize and will not stop until his professed mission here on earth is complete.  The entire Progressive Edge Records lineup is just stellar, so look for all of that on a website soon.

Standing Tall

SE Studios and Secret Enterprise Productions are standing tall in the media industry, as we take the world by storm with the music of Secret Enterprise and all of our Progressive Edge Records artists. Things have been really good at the studio and we have been staying really busy doing projects for our clients. Our Special FX Department has been working overtime on several scenes for upcoming productions. We are also going through footage from 2010 and 2011, to complete a NEW Best of SE DVD, so be sure and watch for that upcoming release in the next few months. The studio has been fortunate enough to be given some work from Mountain Event Productions, so we are really thankful for that and look forward to doing business with them in the future!

Omg, as much as I loved creating the Nowhere CD, I am ready to move onto the NEXT project and that would be Shirl's CD entitled "Just Being Me". Almost simultaneously, Secret Enterprise will begin work on their next CD entitled "2012", which will feature Ryan Sweeton on Drums, Brant Callahan on Bass, Robbi Spencer on Vocals and Keys and a surprise Guest Guitarist for this next project, that will lend not only a helping-hand, but a completely new sound as we know it.

Ryan's drumming is very modern and progressive and that alone makes and huge difference in the overall scheme of playing their own music live. SE plays many songs from the first CD, but none from the second or third. Management finally stepped in and now we are blessed to have Ryan at the studio every day, working and helping us in so many ways!

Thank you BigRu!
Ryan Sweeton

Paige Nichols

How many times have you had your heart broken? Don’t worry, I’m not here to talk you out of your heartaches, though I think a passionate and soulful singer-songwriter can do so. And by that I mean, some music from this young maiden here, Paige Nichols, can get it done in a much more invigorating way. Oh yeah – invigorating, stimulating, captivating… that’s definitely Paige Nichols.

Paige Nichols has just released her debut EP “Little Men” last month, and from the album title itself you can already tell that it features the music of one empowered female artist. Paige has this unique and powerful voice that moves you to get up and go on. Regardless of what track of hers you listen to, you’ll find her music along with her amazing vocals fill you with emotions up to the brim.

Though “Little Man Big Gun” is upbeat and already stirring, “Haunted” reveals Paige as more than a raspy soulful singer-songwriter, but one that is musically expressive, sensitive, and exceptional with her heartfelt lyrics and honest sound – top it off with her incredible piano playing, which she have learned to play way back when she was nine and still living in a town in Ohio.

Now, Paige is in New York living her dream of becoming the next soul, pop singer-songwriter. She’s already worked with producer Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat, One Republic, Carrie Underwood,) and even recorded with drummer, Victor Indrizzo (Alanis Morissette, Gwen Stefani, Shakira,) and guitarist Andrew Williams (Five for Fighting.)

You can find the very talented Paige Nichols perform solo with her piano this month in The Living Room, and The Bitter End. To wrap it up, I certainly believe that Paige Nichols has got the skills, the talent, and the spirit to hit mainstream!

Listen to Paige Nichols on MySpace and check her upcoming shows.

Read about more new music artists on the NorCal Music News Blog by clicking here.

Thank you for reading the SE Productions Blog! We appreciate each and everyone of you!

:o)) Watching Robbi?

It is an interesting life being in the public's eye. I have seen many a music artist fall and not get up. I may not be Michael Jackson or anything, but I am a musical genius in my own right. The music that I write has substance and meaning and purpose and spirit and spunk and moxy and those are all so important, but what my music has more important than anything is God. Take your vision of who God is and throw it away and try to view Him/Her as they were a real person, with real feelings and a heart to help people. Not someone who is waiting to smack the tar out of you. It seems that people who are in the process of "watching me", do not realize that they are indeed the ones being watched...... lol

When I talk about God, in my posts or otherwise.... I am not saying that "I am God", so please do not judge me and say that He is going to show me and punish me for something that I did to you, cause it just ain't gonna happen, not in your lifetime anyway.... Speaking of "your lifetime", is it possible that by you speaking mean about someone else, that that can indeed shorten your lifespan? I am leaning towards "yes" as I have seen people over the years who have come against the work of the spirit and they somehow where moved on and no longer here to cause any disruptions. I love it when a plan comes together and all I have to do is sit back and watch. Is that being selfish?

I work so hard to make things happen for SE and it's subsidiaries and for some reason people choose to hassle me, even after I help people out and then when they get what they wanted, they move onto their next victim I guess.... I don't know. Maybe that is to harsh, but it just seems that lately, well since July 1st, 2011 when Shirl and I got married, that the stalkers and psycho ex's came out of the woodwork.... Omg, how embarrassing is that? Hahahahahaha! Yeah honey, these are a bunch of my old friends that are now possessed by Satan and acting a fool.... lmao Anyway, things are GREAT at SE Studios and Progressive Edge Records!!! We are signing new artists and they are all going to be putting new music on iTunes over the next few months. Space is limited, but if you know someone who wants to record a hit song, then send them our way. Have a great week!!! Love and respect, Robster

Happy Birthday Laura!!

We are going to party our buns off at Laura's Birthday Party this Friday night at her house!! SE is taking their Traveling Circus on the road and playing some gigs around the local area, just for fun of playing out, which everybody needs, I don't care who you are.... Ryan Sweeton will be playing drums with SE for a while. His style of drumming is very advanced and progressive, with lots of time signature changes and other things, so playing with SE will be a lot of fun for everybody concerned. Alby and Brant and Wade and Ryan and I are all ready and looking forward to rocking out and haing out out with our awesome peeps!!!

We have been rehearsing a lot and working on lots of new music. This Friday will be a wood shed session where we will learn a bunch of new songs. Mostly our own tunes though.... Lol Wth? That just sounds really funny that SE is such a rockin' band, but doesn't play any songs from "Twisted" (Album #2) or "Nuthin' But Scratches" (Album #3) and there are a lot of great songs on there, like "Mean" and "Tommy Don't Sue Me". The main thing is that SE become a band that plays it's own songs. We hope and pray that all of you are doing well. If you need anything, just call our offices and let us know. Love and more, Robbi

Abundance in Every Way

It is amazing to me that we have an abundance in every way!  It would appear that by making certain business decisions, that we have finally arrived at a place where we can get something done here at Secret Enterprise Productions.  There are many sides to a story and the truth is that these are "just stories", so with that being said... the only story around here is about how SE gets famous and gets a TV deal or something big like that!  I want all of you to be praying and believing in miracles, because that is how we got where we are today.  That and believing in love and being able to test the spirits, so to speak and see what is what is who is who.  These are very important things in running a recording and production facility like SE Studios.  Running a studio may not seem like a big deal but it is truly and cross between rocket science and baby sitting.....  and you deal with so many different personalities and usually people who are inspired and creative are also a little whacko, so it is a lot to deal with.  We have had a lot of help getting where we're at.  We had many interns and volunteers for a while and it also what a learning experience in people skills.  All in all I think we have done pretty good and as I wait here for my son Ryan to arrive and to hang out with Shirl and I and do music together, I am very blessed to be who I am and to be doing what I am doing!!!  Bless all of you, Robster

New Horizons!!!

In an amazing attempt to promote our band SECRET ENTERPRISE, I made some connections with some new A&R peeps at EMI.  We have a meeting next week, with an actual record exec, so we will let you know how that goes.  We have some new sponsors at SE Studios that have been gracious and set us up with an entire PA System, with monitors and everything!  Ryan Sweeton has been working hard on the new CD with James Rosas.

Life Without Headaches

Life has been so much easier around here without certain people spurting their negativity.  I feel like many of my headaches have stopped now that the only people here are the people who are supposed to be here.  I still deal with their negativity through outside comments and so on, but it is so much better now!  Also certain artists that were only bringing me down have now left and I am doing a lot better not doing work for people who are only out to take advantage of Brant and Albert and I.  Well, there is a lot of work to do today, so I better get going.

Pure Fuckery

Omg, it has been pure fuckery on the part of my crew, but they are all learning how to live and do things together.  I'm learning things like it's better to sing through crap and have fun, than to sing through gold and then owe someone for it.  There is a lot going on at SE Productions right now, so let me get you caught up.  Things didn't work out between us and one of our boy bands.  Maybe if we had a contract with them in the first place, then nothing bad would have ever happened.  New music continues to come out of the studio between Alby and I and Ryan and James, we have enough material to keep us busy for a long time!

Blessings From Heaven!!!!

Omg, we have the most amazing people coming in to SE Studios. Ryan Sweeton and James Rosas are currently recording a hard rock single called, "Your Problem" and it is going to be great!! The song features Ryan on drums and lead vocals, James on guitar, James Lafayette on bass and Robbi Spencer on keyboards. We are excited to have them and we look forward to many great recordings with Ryan and James this summer. James Rosas will also record a solo acoustic album, which will be available on iTunes sometime in November.

My Destiny?

A lot of hoopla and scuttlebutt was happening when this song was first released.  Although the video says "Robbi Spencer", it is actually music from the new Elder Soul Project from Robbi Spencer and Albert Leon of Secret Enterprise.  Elder Soul will not only release a full-length CD, but will also tour in 2012 with a very well-known Christian group to be named at a later date, due to contract negotiations.  All is well at SE Studios and Secret Enterprise Productions.  We take care of our music artists and we don't take crap from anyone in the process.  We are both loving and forgiving, but we ultimately decided who we hang out with and in these changing times, that may be altered at some point.

Parade Of The Dead!

We have ad a lot of fun since the studio opened in 2008!  This video is a collage of all the fun stuff that we have manged to do in that time.  SE entered a video contest that Zakk Wylde and the Black Label Society were putting on.  This is actually the video contest entry for SE.  There is always a lot going on at SE Studios and Secret Enterprise Productions, so be sure and check back frequently to find out the situations and happenings here at SE.

It's On The Board

Not all of the projects that we have slated for production are on the SE Project Board, but for the most part everything that we are going to be working on over the next few weeks is right here.  We are excited to have help with our projects as well, as new Interns are being brought in and SE continues to grow by leaps and bounds.  McFinn came by yesterday and we got to hang out and talk about the business aspect of what we are wanting to do with SE, including getting a beer & wine license and having VIP Parties at the SE Studios, on more of a regular basis.  The parties that we have had so far have been amazing to say the least!!!  Check back for more information about SE.

Sunday, May 8, 2011

Hey everybody, we hope that your weekend has been an awesome one so far!  A lot has been going on over the past week at SE Studios & Productions in Grass Valley, California.  The SE Project Board was jam-packed with project ideas, with no one to actually deal with them.  Finally, I printed out the Project Board and put it in my backpack and then erased what was there, so that Sandy could do Brant's Birthday wishes on the board.  Over the past few days I have managed to get caught up on most of the video projects that we had slated for production.

We have a new YouTube Channel called SECRET TECH TIPS and we will be sharing some amazing things with you, that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else.  There are currently 3-Episodes online right now and you can goto the secrettechtips YouTube Channel by clicking here now....  More videos are coming soon, so be sure and check back for more fun stuff!

Folsom Prison Blues

Hey SE Studio Peeps!!!  All is well in SE Production Land today and this week so far. Last night, I worked with the Holcomb Brothers Band on a new live music video for their DVD and for their website.  We are making great progress and everything is on-track for the disc being done in a little over a month and that's not too bad actually, considering that we can only get together on Monday nights, but we are working hard and it will turn out really good!

Friday, April 29, 2011

Hey everybody, since there is always so much going on at the main SECRET ENTERPRISE facility and now with the opening of our SE R&D facility, we decided that it was time to create a separate blog, just for SE Studios and Secret Enterprise Productions.  Secret Enterprise the band has it's own blog located at and you can view it by clicking here....  We are super excited about all the new videos and stuff that are coming out of SE!!  There are still several projects on the board that need to be dealt with, so we have got our work cut out for us.  Be sure and check out those videos and also check out the new websites that we are currently working on, like the Holcomb Brothers Band, Cool Blue, and Thunder in the Foothills.  More great websites and music and video are on the way as we make history doing what we are doing.  You either love us or your hate us, but there is definitely NO in between.....  SE Productions will begin the search for the next SE Studio Intern.  It is for the position of Production Assistant.  More information and an application are available on our website by clicking here.  The video featured on this page is from 3-years ago, when we first moved into the SE Studios facility.  There are no stairs and the place is totally different, so check it out.  Have a great Friday everyone and we will post more tomorrow.  SE Staff
